Happy Birthday, Gram!

Today is my amazing Grandmother's 80th birthday!
I've already wrote about her a few times: here, here, here and of course here. I could not be more thankful for her as she is my rock and my best friend and the one who taught me how special meals are. I literally could watch her cook for hours and not get bored. She doesn't use any recipes and she didn't learn any of her techniques from cookbooks or tv shows. She spent hours making memories with her mom in the kitchen from the time she was young, and she carried that on to spending hours making memories in the kitchen with me. I still remember her sewing a little apron for me when I was a toddler so that I could cook with her and match her-- she even drew a smiley face on it for me. She does cute things like that for me all of the time. Her life is truly remarkable and I only hope to be like her when I am 80. My grandmother (and her food) will always be one of my greatest comforts on this earth. I know she is for others as well. She feeds her mail man every day (and now a few other mail women and men) and she pretty much loves to feed everyone and anyone that comes near her home. She is so generous and so loving and two days ago she even felt "sorry" for a little plant in her house and rearranged furniture to care for a tiny little plant. She loves big and with boldness. She is the most selfless person I have ever, ever known. Her life is known by giving to others. Her and my grandfather's home is safe and bright. I love you, Gram! Thank you for loving me so much every second of every day, even before I was born! I love you that much, too!

In light of my grandmother's heart and love for others and enjoying meals together, I wanted to post a few quotes about food today. My grandmother is the one who sparked my interested in food and the reason I equate food and meals with special moments full of happiness and sheer love. So, below are a few thoughts meant to inspire us regarding the meals we know and love. The most inspiring thoughts on food will probably be the ones I spoke about my grandmother since she lives and breathes more wonder about food and sharing it with others than I've ever seen talked or written about. However, these are good to "chew" on as well.
